Western Highlands Province (WHP) is the centre of highlands region. PMVs,Trucks and vehicles stop for water,feul and food before taking the second leg of the trip home from Hagen Town.Known as Kange country WHP is the business and economic centre of the highlands provinces. Coffee and tea are major source of income for the province population. Gumanch and Waghi Mek coffee plantation as well as Waren tea plantation provide employment for rural villagers. Some of PNG Popular tea brands as Nambawan tea, Bushell and Kurumul tea are products of WHP.
People of the province live in tribes and have traditional based feast and celebration. One of the known cultural event is the Moka feast. A kind of traditional economic activity where tribes exchange food other goods and live pigs as payment for assistance and favours from related clans and tribes.Home to the Bayer river Wild Life Centuary and Kuk Archaelogical Research Station, WHP contributes alot to the PNG history and wild life conservation.
