New Ireland Province situated north of East New Britain in the Bismarch Aechipilego. The Province comprises of New Ireland mainland and 2 main Is of New Handover and St Mathias to the north and other group of small volcanic islands namerly Feni,Tanga,Tabar and gold rich Lihir Island.Karanas is pidgin word for gravel or sand stones and is associated with coral reef and island attols.Breath taking scenery, sun,sand and sea defines New Ireland culture and lifestyle.Singsings and traditional music enriches New Islanders sense of humour (a kind of show off).
Kavieng Town is the Provincial Capital and the major road links to other parts of the province is by Buluminski highway.NIP consists of 2 districts (Kavieng & Namatanai) and 9 local governments.The province total population is 118,350.Logging,agriculture, fisheries and mining are major economic activities.
