Gulf Provincial FlagGulf Province derives its name from the great curving bay known as the Gulf of Papua south coast of PNG between Central and Western Province.Gulf large swampy and coastal plain has no road through to the districts of Kikori and the station of Baimuru and Ihu. All transport is by third level airline and by river boats.

Half of Gulf is mountainous with rich timbers.Purari and Kikori River flow from the Armit Range of mountains through flood plains and swampy area to the sea.

Gulf is known to have an enomous stock of prawns and other marine resources. Oil has been discovered in Gulf.Oil pipeline from Southern Highlands oil fields passes through the province.

Mud crabs, fish, pork and other source of proteint is in abundance.Sago is produced for staple diet and some are sold to residents in Port Moresby.Due to transportation stocks of food and betel nut never reach Kerema Town.

Gulf Governor Honourable Chris HaivetaThe road link to the National Capital allows people from Kerema Town and Malalaua area to sell their produce in the city markets. Betelnut trade is a major source of income for the gulf villagers.

The total population is 106,898 and the province comprises 2 districts with 10 local governments.

Gulf is a province with a huge potential in all economic sense, some kind of a sleeping giant. You have to see it for yourself to acknowledge it as they normally say in pidgin YU YET KAM NA LUKIM.
