East New Britain Province is the eastern half of the main island of New Britain. East New Britain popular land mark is the old Rabaul Town, today is covered in volcanic ashes.Matupit Volcano is still active and throws dust over the beautifull Simpson Habour.Today the Provincial Capital of East New Britain is Kokopo Town. Kokopo is fast developing into a modern urban centre due to the flat land area of the gazelle peninsula previously covered by cocoa and coconut plantation. Tokua Airport once ignored by ENB leaders is today the gateway to East New Britain.
Vunapope Catholic Mission during the Volcanic Disaster provided refuge,shelter and land to displaced citizens of East New Britain. St Peter Torot is the first Papua New Guinean saint,a religious man who died for his faith in God. ENB is home to many religious missionaries with lots of historical sites including World War 2 land marks.
Unlike other province of PNG East New Britain culture and lifestyle is well publishised. Agriculture is the backbone of ENB economy.
The province comprises of 4 district and 18 local governments with a total population of 220,133.
